Women and Land in Zimbabwe
Who We Are
Women and Land in Zimbabwe (WLZ), formerly known as Women and Land Lobby Group (WLLG), is a network member organization, formed in 1998 by a coalition of activists and organizations whose vision was to advance and economically empower women. At inception, WLLG served a lobbying role for women to be empowered and have access to land. Its vision then was to advance and economically empower women through land use, especially during the time of land reform. In 2002, WLZ became a Trust with member’s approval. At this time the organization reviewed focus to empower women to go beyond access to ensure increased productivity on the allocated land. This included lobby for increased access to more land related resources and a conducive legal and policy environment.

Our History
In July 2009, WLZ registered as a Private Voluntary Organization (PVO) as required by the PVO Act [Chapter 17:5] of 2007 WLZ’ s work focuses on building of local structures and platforms for social & economic dialogue on women’s land rights, security of tenure, policy advocacy, promotion of sustainable agriculture production, movement building and access to markets to support full economic empowerment of women and youths in Zimbabwe. WLZ interventions also include high volume campaigns on climate change and copying innovations to reduce the adverse effects of climate change, promotion of sustainable low cost solar powered irrigation farming and adoption of water harvesting techniques. In the communities a vibrant movement (Rural women’s assembly) is being strengthened for collective advocacy, building collective power [power with] for the excluded, marginalized, oppressed, landless, invisible
